In 2012, a multi-task fibre-optic infrastructure was installed in the Silesia Park. The scope of the project included developing a telecommunications network with the backbone network and connections for selected buildings and HotSpots.

Due to the required range and bandwidth, it was decided that fibre-optic technology would be used as optimal for an undertaking of such scope, as it allows connecting more facilities in the Park and allows easy expansion.

HotSpots were installed in the key buildings and in the main avenues, such as General Jerzy Ziętek Avenue, Rose Avenue or Main Avenue. Free access points were also provided at the Park management building, the “Hat” Exhibition Centre, “Fala” swimming complex, the Silesian Adventure Park and the Silesian Theme Park. The connection will have 512 kbps download speed and 128 kbps upload speed.

This solution will provide internet connectivity not only for the Park administration and institutions, but also for the visitors. With HotSpots and Wi-Fi, everyone will now be able to go online free of charge.

The construction of the comprehensive fibre-optic infrastructure system in Wojewódzki Park Kultury i Wypoczynku im. Gen. Jerzego Ziętka S.A. (Silesia Park)

The immediate purpose of the project was to create public internet access points (PIAP) providing secure broadband connection by building the fibre-optic data communication system in the Silesia Park, with the backbone network and connections of selected HotSpots providing public internet access points.

The following scopes of works and supplies were specified for the project:

  • Network design – including the design of communication conduits and fibre-optic connections.
  • Nodes design - 1 core node, 14 access nodes.
  • Building the conduits and supplying the conduit pipes, manholes and fibre-optic cables and accessories, making passive optical network connections.
  • Adapting the rooms, installing passive and active hardware in network nodes, primary configuration and start-up of the infrastructure.

The project was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Programme of the Silesian Voivodeship for 2007–2013.
